Conference This Spring
March 5th and 6th 2010
Was your home or business built before or during the 1960s? With the new decade, the National Trust for Historic Preservation now acknowledges 1960’s properties as Historic. Are you interested in learning about historic restoration and preservation? Then mark your calendar for the Restore Omaha conference, March 5th and 6th at Metropolitan Community College’s, South Omaha Campus, Industrial Training Center (27th and Q Streets). There are several exciting experiences planned for this year’s conference. See attached conference schedule!
On Friday, March 5, the Conference opening reception will be held at Frank’s Pieces of the Past at 814 S. 14th St. Owner Frank Horejsi has been an architectural salvager since the 1980’s and has a remarkable warehouse of historic salvage that represents Omaha’s past.
Keynote speaker Donovan Rypkema, principal at PlaceEconomics in Washington DC, will speak on how development of commercial areas stimulates restoration of surrounding historic neighborhoods. In addition to the keynote speaker, over 20 concurrent sessions are scheduled throughout the day including hands-on demonstrations and a wide-range of topics geared towards the mid-century home or business owner. The Conference will close with a Restoration JAM! where attendees will share lessons learned in renovation and preservation of their older properties.
Throughout the Conference on March 6, Exhibitor Booths will be open for participants to gather ideas, products, contacts and solutions to their old-home problems.
